What does this error mean?

When pressure falls below roughly 0.5 bar, the boiler’s built-in pressure sensor triggers the F1 fault and locks out the appliance to prevent damage to the heat exchanger and pump. In short: your boiler isn’t broken — it’s just telling you there isn’t enough water in the system for it to run safely. Until that pressure is restored, the boiler will refuse to fire.

Step 2 — Inspect for visible leaks: Before adding any water, do a quick walk around your home and check all radiators, visible pipework, and the area directly beneath the boiler for any signs of dripping water, damp patches, or corrosion staining. Also check outside for a dripping white plastic pipe from an external wall — this is the pressure relief valve outlet and indicates the PRV may be releasing pressure.
Step 3 — If no leaks are found, repressurise the boiler: Locate the filling loop — on most Alpha boilers this is a flexible braided hose with one or two valves underneath the boiler. If both ends are connected, slowly open both valves (turn them so the slot aligns with the pipe) and watch the pressure gauge rise. Stop when the gauge reads 1.2–1.5 bar. Do not exceed 2 bar.
