Dishwasher
E15
The E15 error code on a Siemens dishwasher means the AquaStop flood-protection system has been triggered — water has leaked into the base tray and the machine has shut itself down as a safety measure. It’s one of the more common Siemens errors, and in many cases you can resolve it yourself without calling an engineer.
What does this error mean?
Inside the base of your Siemens dishwasher sits a shallow drip tray with a float switch. If any water collects there — from a leak, an overflow, or even condensation build-up — the float rises and triggers the E15 error, cutting power to the pump and halting the cycle. The dishwasher is working exactly as designed: it’s protecting your kitchen floor from flooding. The error won’t clear until the water in the base tray is removed and the float switch resets.

🛠️ Step-by-step fix
Turn off the dishwasher and switch it off at the mains. Pull it away from the unit if possible and leave it for 30–60 minutes to let standing water settle.
Tilt the machine carefully backwards by approximately 45 degrees (get someone to help). This allows water sitting in the base tray to drain back into the main sump. Hold for 30 seconds, then return the machine to upright.
Remove the kickplate at the bottom front of the dishwasher (usually held by two clips or screws). Use a towel or dry cloth to mop up any remaining water you can see in the base tray. A turkey baster helps reach awkward spots.
Check the door seal (gasket) for visible cracks, tears, or debris preventing a good seal. Clean it with a damp cloth. If it’s damaged, a replacement Siemens door seal costs £15–£30 and clips in without tools.
Inspect the drain hose at the back — ensure it isn’t kinked, blocked, or sitting too low. Clear any blockage from the filter at the bottom of the dishwasher tub (remove, rinse, replace).
Plug the machine back in and run a short rinse cycle. Monitor closely for any signs of water appearing at the base. If E15 clears and no new leak appears, the issue is resolved. If E15 returns within one cycle, there is an active internal leak requiring a professional.
📞 When to call a professional
If the E15 error returns after you’ve drained and dried the base tray, there is an active leak from a component such as the inlet valve, pump seal, or sump — and you should call an appliance engineer. Tell them: ‘My Siemens dishwasher is showing E15, I’ve drained the base tray but the error is recurring, so there’s likely an internal leak.’ Do not continue running the machine, as repeated flooding can damage the motor and electronics.
⚖️ Repair or replace?
A professional repair for an active E15 leak (typically a pump seal, inlet valve, or hose replacement) costs £80–£150 including call-out in the UK. If your Siemens dishwasher is under 7 years old and otherwise working well, repair is almost always worth it — Siemens machines are built to last 10–15 years. If it’s over 10 years old and facing a second or third fault, replacing with a new model (£400–£700 for a comparable Siemens integrated dishwasher) makes more financial sense.
