Washing Machine
E18
The E18 error code on a Beko washing machine indicates a drainage problem — the machine isn’t emptying water within the expected time. It’s a common fault that’s often DIY-fixable, but ignoring it will stop your machine completing any cycle.
What does this error mean?
E18 tells you the Beko washing machine’s control board has detected that water hasn’t drained from the drum within the programmed time limit. This is typically set at around 5–8 minutes; if the drum still holds water after that window, the machine throws E18 and halts the cycle. The fault points to a blockage, pump failure, or installation issue preventing water from leaving the machine.
Est. repair cost
£80–£130 professional repair (pump replacement); £20–£45 DIY pump part if self-fitting

🛠️ Step-by-step fix
Run a reset first: turn the machine off at the wall, wait 60 seconds, then power it back on and restart the cycle. A one-off glitch can trigger E18 and a reset clears it.
Clean the pump filter: locate the small access flap at the bottom-front of the machine, place a towel and shallow tray underneath, unscrew the filter cap slowly to release residual water, then pull out and rinse the filter under a tap. Remove any debris from the filter housing.
Check the drain hose: pull the machine out slightly and inspect the full length of the hose for kinks, crushing, or sharp bends. Straighten any kinks and ensure the hose end sits 60–100 cm above floor level in the standpipe or sink outlet.
Check the standpipe or sink waste: pour a bucket of water down the household drain the washing machine empties into. If it drains slowly, the blockage is in your plumbing — use a drain unblocker or plunger before blaming the machine.
Listen to the drain pump during a cycle: start a drain-only or spin programme and press your ear close to the machine. A working pump makes a consistent humming sound. Silence or a grinding/rattling noise suggests the pump impeller is broken or the motor has failed — stop here and call an engineer.
If the filter was clear, the hose is fine, and the pump sounds dead or rattles, do not attempt to open the machine’s back panel to access wiring or replace the pump motor yourself unless you are a competent DIYer comfortable with appliance electrics — if in doubt, call a professional.
📞 When to call a professional
Call a washing machine engineer if the pump filter is clean, the drain hose is correctly routed, and the error persists — you likely have a failed drain pump or a wiring fault that requires the machine to be partially dismantled. Tell the engineer you have an E18 drainage fault and that you’ve already cleaned the filter and checked the hose; this saves diagnostic time. A reputable local appliance engineer or Beko-authorised service technician is your best option.
⚖️ Repair or replace?
A drain pump replacement typically costs £80–£130 fitted by a UK appliance engineer, including parts and labour. If your Beko washing machine is under 5 years old, repair is almost always worth it; if it’s 8 years or older and this isn’t the first fault, a new mid-range Beko (£300–£450) is likely better value than repeated repairs. Compare the repair quote against 50% of a new machine’s cost — if the repair exceeds that, replace.
