Tumble Dryer
F19
The F19 error code on a Bosch tumble dryer indicates a fault with the moisture sensor or a failure in the drying process — specifically, the machine isn’t detecting that your laundry is drying as expected. It’s a common fault and, in most cases, fixable at home without calling an engineer.
What does this error mean?
The F19 code signals that the moisture sensor bars inside the drum are not registering a change in moisture levels during the drying cycle. Bosch tumble dryers use two small metal sensor bars near the drum outlet to measure how wet your clothes are; if they can’t detect drying progress, the machine faults out. This can be a genuine sensor failure, but far more often it’s caused by residue build-up or a blockage preventing airflow.
Est. repair cost
£80–£130 professional repair (sensor + labour); £10–£25 DIY if only a replacement sensor strip is needed

🛠️ Step-by-step fix
Reset the machine: switch it off at the wall socket, wait 30 seconds, then power back on and restart the cycle. A one-off software glitch can trigger F19.
Clean the moisture sensor bars: open the drum and locate the two small metal strips near the front lip (usually near the door seal at the bottom). Wipe them firmly with a cloth dampened in white vinegar or a small amount of rubbing alcohol to remove fabric softener residue. Do not use abrasive pads.
Clean the lint filter: remove the filter (usually in the door aperture), pull apart both sections, and rinse under a running tap. Allow to dry fully before replacing. Do this after every cycle going forward.
Clean the condenser unit (condenser/heat pump models only): locate the condenser behind the kick-plate at the bottom of the machine, remove it according to your model’s manual, and rinse it under a tap until the water runs clear. Allow to dry before refitting.
Check and reduce the load: never fill the drum more than three-quarters full. Overloading is a frequent cause of F19. Run a smaller, lighter load to see if the error clears.
If all the above steps fail and the error persists, the moisture sensor or its wiring harness is likely faulty and needs professional diagnosis — do not attempt to open the back panel or access internal wiring yourself.
📞 When to call a professional
If the F19 error returns after you’ve cleaned the sensor bars, lint filter, and condenser, stop and book a repair engineer. Tell them: ‘My Bosch tumble dryer is showing an F19 fault — I’ve cleaned the moisture sensors, lint filter, and condenser, but the error persists.’ This gives them a clear starting point and avoids you paying for repeat diagnostic time.
⚖️ Repair or replace?
A professional repair for a faulty moisture sensor or NTC sensor typically costs £80–£130 including labour and parts in the UK. If your Bosch tumble dryer is under 7 years old and otherwise in good condition, repair is worthwhile — Bosch machines are built to last 10–15 years. If it’s over 8–10 years old and requires a second repair, replacing it with a new heat pump dryer is the more cost-effective long-term choice.
